Fat Burning Friday 1/30

Well this week was nothing spectacular!

Kids were off school tuesday - friday which really threw me off. Hubby was also home a couple days. My eating went like this - Excellent one day with healthy choices.......not at all great the next day and not so healthy choices. This went on over and over.
On a brighter note I did get in 3 walks this week. 2 were for 40 minutes and 1 was for 30.
Sadly I lost no weight, but thankfully I gained no weight! :)

Now this is really cool.....I won 3 months free Weight Watcher online from a giveaway on Bargain Briana. I have participated in Weight Watchers a long time ago where I went to meetings and was very successful. I have never done the online version so I will be blogging about my experiences along the way. I will be starting this tomorrow.

So here are my goals for this week:
  • drink my water (this is a permanent goal:)
  • Walk at least 3 times ( I would really like to walk 4, hopefully I have the time)
  • Stick to my new Weight Watchers goals

Snow Days!

Today is our second snow day! Technically yesterday was an ice day. It started out with constant sleeting Monday night then more sleeting all day yesterday. This finally turned into snow last night.
School was called off yesterday, today and already for tomorrow.
Thankfully we have power, I know there are a lot of people without power right now.
So today I have just been relaxing and enjoying our snow days!

Gainesville Family Sells Everything they Own

While browsing blogs tonight I came across "Deal"ectible Mommies and their most recent post about a family in Gainesville, Georgia. The Peter's family has 2 children with special needs and due to overwhelming medical bills they are attempting to sell all their worldly possessions except their house and kids on eBay.

If you can find it in your heart to make a small donation to help the family it would be wonderful. You can read about their situation by clicking on Peter's family above. You can even watch a news clips on that page. You can go here to make a donation through Paypal in any amount.

I did make a donation of $5 and I challenge any of you who can to please do the same.

Fat Burning Friday 1/23

This week turned out to be a pretty good week, although I am still struggling with my weakness for Dr. Pepper. My wonderful hubby ordered me a Reebok Precision XT Heart Monitor to use during workouts on the treadmill. The heart monitor on my treadmill is far from accurate.
Because I have a heart condition I have to keep track of my heart rate when exercising. My cardiologists recommends that I keep my heart rate at or below 140. That can make my workout very difficult. When I was more fit, thinner and walking the treadmill like 4-5 times a week an hour at a time he allowed me to push myself between 140 and 150 as long as I was having no dizziness of shortness of breath. Since at this time I am way out of shape I am sticking to the 140 and monitoring myself closely.

I got on the treadmill 3 times this week. I walked 35 minutes, a couple minutes for the warm up and cool down and then 30 minutes for the walk. I stayed between 2.5 mph and 2.9mph. If my heart rate got below 140 I would kick it up a little faster and if it got above 140 I would drop it down a little. What my Dr. has told me is to walk farther not faster so I will be working on building my time up each week.

The good news is....I lost 2 1/2 lbs this week!! For a total of 4lbs so far.

My goals for next week
  • still work on water
  • still work on Dr. Pepper
  • Walk at least 3 days (try to go for 40 minutes)

Review: New Boost Kid Essentials Nutritional Drinks

My two daughters just had the opportunity to try out samples of the New Boost Kid Essentials Nutritional Drinks. My girls are 10 and 13 and although they are generally good eaters our problem usually lies with breakfast. I admittedly am not a morning person, so on most days, now that the girls are older they do the most of their morning routine without me. They get up at 6am and I get up between 6:30 and 6:45 to make sure they are all ready to go. Although I try to make sure they have plenty of easy things to eat that are healthy I have caught them many times rushing out the door having eaten nothing but a yogurt.
Boost Kid Essentials offers 25 vitamins and minerals, 7 grams of protein, antioxidants and probiotics. These little drinks are a perfect addition to the hurried morning lives of my preteen girls.
So the question did they like them?
Well they got to try Chocolate and Vanilla and then I asked them to discuss them with me. First off they really liked both flavors. They said the chocolate tasted like a thick yummy chocolate milk. As for the vanilla one said it tasted like ice cream and the other said a vanilla shake. I am thinking that is about the same thing.
So when asked if they preferred one flavor to the other, they both affirmed they really liked them both equally and want to know when I am buying more. :)

So if you have a child or children between the ages of 1 and 13 that just aren't taking in all the nutrition they need to be, Boost could be a great addition to their diet.

Let me tell you that our girls especially love this toothpaste. It is not too strong but works really well. Your teeth feel really clean after using it.
It is a little pricey for me but as long as I can find a good deal and a coupon I will continue buying.

Using breakthrough technology, Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste is the first and only toothpaste on the market today to contain the Polyfluorite System™. This unique system combines two powerful ingredients: stannous fluoride to protect against gingivitis, plaque, cavities and tooth sensitivity; and sodium hexametaphosphate, a stain- and tartar-fighting ingredient. Together they deliver comprehensive protection for your teeth like never before, while providing whitening benefits.
Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste is the first toothpaste accepted by the American Dental Association to address all these areas: Cavities, Gingivitis, Plaque, Tooth Sensitivity, and Whitening. And it fights Tartar Buildup and Freshens Breath!

Available in Clean Mint, Clean Cinnamon, and Clean Night Mint flavors, Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste is expertly designed to help give you a healthier smile.

Help stop gingivitis before it starts by making Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste part of your gingivitis-fighting oral care routine, along with Crest Pro-Health Rinse, Crest® Glide® Floss and the Oral-B® Vitality™ Precision Clean electric rechargeable toothbrush. Learn about gingivitis from the experts here, and find more information on how to prevent it here.

Shopping January 9 - 15

Well if you read my previous post you know that I had a crazy week. The previous week I spent $103. As for this past week.....I only went to Walmart and CVS.

I have no pictures. I also lost my CVS receipt which sadly had about 5 or 6 really good CRT's on it and my $15.50 in ECB's. Thankfully I can reprint my ECB's online but I lost out on some good coupons.

The only thing I bought at CVS was

4 Stayfree pads @ $4.50 each
Spongebob bandaids @ $2.99

2 B1G1 Free Stayfree

I paid $13 something and got back $15.50 in Extra Care Bucks. $10 for buying $20 worth of listed products and $5.50 for Quarterly bonus.

At walmart I only purchased a few things like milk, bread, lunchmeat, cheese. That sort of thing. I don't have my reciept but at sure I spent less than $30.

This puts me well under my goal of $200 a payday (2 weeks)!

Hopefully next week is going to go a little smoother!

Fat Burning Friday......On Saturday

I am so behind! My sister and her 2 kids stayed here the past couple of days and I was gone almost all day yesterday. By the time we got home around 6pm and had dinner I was not really up to blogging.
Okay, last week went so/so. I start off by saying I never got on the treadmill once. Last friday night I started running fever and then ending up sleeping 15hrs that night! WOW
I mean I like to sleep in on Saturday's but not like that.
Not sure if I was just ran down from everything going on around here or what. I spent Saturday and Sunday resting, I just felt blah. As for Mon-Thurs, I was gone except for Thursday and well the treadmill didn't make it on the top of my priority list.
I did do well with drinking water. As for Dr Pepper, most days I only drank 1 but there were a couple days I had 2. The eating also went pretty well, could have been a little better but I was pleased with the result.

Considering no exercise and not perfect eating I was glad to lose 1 1/2 lbs.

Goals for the new week.
  • more water
  • only 1 Dr. Pepper a day
  • treadmill

Monkey Munch Recipe

I just came across this great Monkey Munch recipe. I remember seeing this episode on Jon and Kate Plus 8 (love the show but we no longer have lifetime) and I just never got around to making it. This particular recipe is from

Monkey Munch

9 cups Chex cereal (any variety)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Stove Method Directions:

  • Measure cereal into a large bowl & set aside.
  • Heat chocolate chips, peanut butter and the butter over low heat until melted. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  • Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the cereal and stir until evenly coated.
  • Pour the mix into a 2 gallon ziploc bag and add powdered sugar, seal bag.
  • Shake bag until everything’s well coated then spread the mix on waxed paper to cool.
  • Refrigerate in an airtight container.

Microwave Method Directions:

  • Place the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in a microwaveable bowl and melt uncovered on High for 1 minute. Stir.
  • Microwave for another 30 seconds or until mixture is stirred smooth.
  • Stir in the vanilla.
  • Follow the rest of the directions as above in the Stove Method.

I was just wondering have any of you made this recipe? Did you kids love it?
I am thinking of trying it for my daughters, the thought is to send it with lunches as a treat but not sure if it will last that long. :)
I am planning to get the ingredients when I grocery shop any thoughts are appreciated

Kmart Double Coupon Days

Double Coupon Days finally hits Southern Illinois!!

UPDATE: I called Mt Vernon store again this afternoon, I had the clerk check with a Mgr. They said that West Frankfort was the only store doing the Double Coupons

Well apparently last week both Kmarts in So. Illinois doubled up to $1 but it was not advertised. This week it is double to $2.

I called both Kmarts this morning, West Frankfort confirmed they are participating. Mt Vernon said they weren't, although West Frankfort Mgr said that Mt Vernon was participating but the girl answering the phone was clueless. So I would call before I head to Mt Vernon.

I haven't stepped foot in Kmart for almost a year, that was when I quit working there part time. I am hoping to score some goodies this morning and will let you know how it turns out.

Fat Burning Friday

Fat Burning Friday is one of the new things that will be going on here. I regularly read a great blog called Mommy Snacks and she does a weekly post about her successes or not over the past week.

I few months ago I tried doing a weight loss blog but with this one and my money making blog I just couldn't keep up. So I decided to take this approach instead.

I have to admit I have a LOT of weight to lose. After my last surgery in January 2006 I have gained 78lbs. Yikes! So I have a long way to go but I am really tired of having this extra weight on.
So my hubby and I started back on Monday January 5th. So far this week has been a struggle. I am really struggling with Dr. Pepper. I am going to try and get back to the routine I used to be on before I gained so much weight.
  • Stay on or around 1500 calories (with occasional exceptions)
  • Drink lots of water and unsweet tea
  • for now try to cut the Dr. Pepper 2 one can a day (hopefully I can wean myself off)
  • get my butt back on the treadmill (haven't done this yet this week)
  • weigh in on friday mornings
  • have one splurge meal a week (this is usually on a friday or saturday night, eat out or make something we normally wouldn't)
I will start my weighing in next week since it has only been a few days this week.

When I did my shopping on Saturday I took my 6 yr old niece and left the older ones at home with hubby. Things went okay but I lost a couple receipts and didn't get any pictures. I will give you what I bought at Kroger. I am not sure what I bought at Walmart but I did spend about $50 there.

2 Shick Razors @ $3 each

2 $1 off Garnier
2 $2 off Garnier Walgreen's Coupon

Total Spent $50.01 and I received a $3 CRT coupon on my next order.

I can not find my walmart receipt, I do know that I bought items such as milk, ground turkey, cheese, turkey sausage, Excedrin Migraine, eggs and more. I have to admit that day is kind of a blur. The total was around $50

Making my weekly total around $103, just a few dollars over my weekly budget of $100.

Shopping 12/26 through 1/1

Well I did no major shopping this week at all. After spending so much the week before I really held off on my spending. On the 27th I ran up to Huck's (a local convenience store) and got 2 gals. of milk at $6.04. Then I went around the corner to Fred's (like a dollar store) and got 2 loaves of bread (Huck's was out) for $3. After that I spent $15 at Kroger. I didn't go to CVS or Walgreen's and I even lost a $5 RR. :(

So my total for last week was $24.04

Sorry no pictures.

Coupon Preview for 1/4/09

Don't forget to pick up your newspapers tomorrow. There is supposed to be a total of 5 inserts, including 3 smart source and 2 red plum. You can check the Taylortown Preview for a detailed list. Please remember that some smaller towns do not get everything the bigger cities do. For instance I am in very southern Illinois and our Sunday Southern has a small amount of coupons compared to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Normally I get 1 Southern for all the local fliers and then 1-4 St. Louis Papers depending on the coupon Preview.
