Out of Town

I am going to be gone for a couple days. My hubby has a business meeting in Chicago and we are tagging along. We are leaving early Tuesday and we have at least a 5 1/2 hr drive depending on how many stops we make. We will be home sometime Thursday. So it is a short trip but we can’t wait, lots of great shopping and eating. We normally go once a year with my hubby but we didn’t go last year so the kids are so excited.

Anyway, I may or may not get a chance to blog. We will be squeezing in as much fun as we can in 2 days.

Coupon Clipping Services

I decided the other day to try a coupon clipping service. I came across Coupons and Things by Dede while searching at Hot coupon World.
At a coupon clipping service, you are paying a small fee for someone to find, clip and deliver certain coupons to you.

I was looking for some Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers coupons. I was able to order 10 of those, 10 $1 off Ronzoni Pasta, 5 $1.50 of Yoplait Yo Plus Yogurt and 5 $3 off 3 Johnson Products. I spent a total of $4.77 including tax.

The site was easy to use, the owner very efficient. I made the order on the 23rd and received my coupons today. I will be using this site again. :)

Update on Homemade Fabric Softener

The other day I was searching for some more "home made" recipes. While perusing The Grocery Cart Challenge I came across a section for "home made" cleaning supplies. Gayle has many ideas I plan on trying, but the one I had to do first was the Fabric Softener. Now her recipe is for making dryer sheets but I just adjusted the amounts.

Now if you remember I made my first home made fabric softener back in September. It has been serving me well. The only thing I was having problems with, was scent. I tried the essential oils but it didn't really give any major scent. The only thing I could figure was that maybe it had something to do with not drying clothes in the dryer? Who knows. Anyway, the recipe made about 45 loads for under a $1 (with this recipe I used 2 lids full each load).

So, I made the new fabric softener yesterday. Here is what I used

7 cups water
4 cups vinegar
1 1/4 cup hair conditioner (this time I used v05 Key lime)

Here is the money break down
Vinegar 1 Gal Jug at WalMart $2.19, I used 4 cups for a total of 54 cents
V05 Conditioner 15 oz on sale at CVS for 88 cents I used 10 oz for a total of 58 cents

So, the Fabric Softener cost me $1.12. This filled my 90 load fabric softener bottle. Also, I am only using 1 lid instead of 2 which means I will get 90 loads for $1.12. Here is the bonus, even though I am hanging my clothes to dry they are softer than with the other recipe. And the scent is better. Not super strong just a light sweet scent. Obviously you can use any conditioner or scent that you like. Plus if you have a coupon for your conditioner you can make this even cheaper.

I will be trying more of Gayle's ideas! :)

New Whole Grain Pop Tarts Sale

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. While out grocery shopping today I first went to Kroger. All pop tarts were on sale for $1.60 a box, even these new whole grain variety. I discovered the "Brown Sugar and Cinnamon" flavor had $1 off peelies on the box. Making them 60cents a box. I got 7, that was all they had.

Then I ran in to Walmart for a couple of things. Their pop tarts were on sale for $1.66 and I found some more with the peelies on them. Made these 66 cents a box.

(please note that Walmart tends to have different prices in different areas)

You are not required to blog about the items but of course you can. You can also go on their site and give your review about the items you receive. Apparently they send out some really nice stuff for moms to try out.

As for the Razor well it is really nice and I am hoping that one of my favorite stores will come up with a great sale on them.

Bargain Briana

Mommy Snacks

Tuesday Meals Under $10

Mexican Soup we just had this for dinner last night.
(for a family of 4)

1lb gound beef or turkey $1.99 (we used turkey)
1 can diced tomatoes 69 cents
1 can corn 69 cents
2 cans black beans $1.50 for both
1 packet Taco Seasoning 79 cents

Shredded Cheese Optional (another good optional item is a dollop of cool sour cream)

Brown your meat and drain. We use extra lean so it never has any grease. Add diced tomatoes. Drain and rinse black beans and add. Drain corn and add. Add a can or 2 of water to cover everything. Last stir in the Taco Seasoning.
Sometimes I do this in the crockpot on low for 4 or 5 hours and sometime I put it in a large covered pot on the stove and simmer a 1 1/2 -2 hours.

We like to add a little sprinkle of Mexican style shredded cheese. It only takes a small portion of the bag.

Total cost not including cheese is $5.66. This can be lower if you catch the items on sale.
