Homemade Fabric Softener

Well I made my first batch of homemade fabric softener this weekend. I have been using homemade laundry soap for about a month now and I am not looking back. I am actually still on this first batch I made. The only thing I have added to my laundry soap is some peppermint essential oil. The lady at the healthfood store said that she adds Dr Bronners Peppermint Liquid Castile Soap to her laundry. For my next batch of laundry soap I will be using Dove soap instead of Ivory.

Okay, as for the fabric softener....this is so easy!!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 6 cups distilled white vinegar
  • 8 cups water
  • your favorite essential oil, I bought lavender. The recipe called for 10-15 drops, I used more like 20. But if you get a small dropper 20 drops dosen't even make a dent in your bottle.

Directions

  1. You will need a one gallon container.
  2. First add the baking soda to the plastic container.
  3. Next add 1 cup of water to start with.
  4. Slowly add the vinegar to the bottle as the vinegar and baking soda will start to fizz.
  5. Then add the rest of the water swirling around & cover venting the top a few times.
  6. Last add the essential oil.
  7. Add 1 cup in your final rinse cycle for each load but give the bottle a good shake to stir up the essential oil if using.
I have been using this for a few days now and am quite pleased. It makes approx 45 loads for under $1.
